About Me

My photo

I am still trying to figure out what I want to be when I grow up. In the meantime, I am going to chew a big wad of bubble gum just for fun, take more pictures, write a picture book, and hang out with my puppy dog.

OPENING DAY- TEXAS RANGERS

I am reporting that I will be going to Texas Rangers Opening Day 2011. I don't have tickets to the game, but I will try to find some to get in. I know what you're thinking. At first glance it may appear to be a not-so-well-thought-out plan. Well, you're right. It isn't. But given the previous years that I've attended opening day, there isn't much of a selection of good seats when ticket sales open to the public, even if you're the first one in line at the box office. Now they're having a lottery to allow people to buy any remaining tickets.

Well, I'll take my chances and try to buy tickets from somebody that might be selling at the game. This way few things will happen. First, the unknown. Who knows if my brother and I will get tickets to get in. Not having the security of knowing that we're in makes going a little more exciting. Second, It will make for a better story. It's a great way to regale a group of friends with our Opening Day drama! Thirdly, if we do get in, it will be much more meaningful, and we just might get good seats, too.

Of course, the bad side of this is that we don't get tickets to get in the stadium, we get stuck in traffic, and lose out on watching Texas Rangers Opening Day baseball. To that, I say thank GOD for DVR satellite. I will be recording the game. I will listen to the game on an FM transmitter as we continue to find a way in. And above all, I can always go to another game. Thank GOD there's 81 homes games.

2009 Opening Day. Didn't have tickets.

Bought 2 tickets. Seats were not bad at all.
So wish me luck in this endeavor. I will blog about my adventure next time we meet.

Night Life

Here are a few things I have learned since creating this blog:

1) It's hard to blog everyday, at least it is for me.
2) Blogging requires more work than I thought it would.
3) It's my blog. I don't have to blog everyday.

It has been over a week since I last blogged. I feel bad because I am neglecting the blog, but mainly because I am neglecting my hobbies, sorta. My main hobby right now has been photography. I also dabble in guitar, but I hit a creative road block, so I have been mainly concentrating on photography.

It seems that lately I've been slowly gaining creative momentum with the guitar. I have been working on that for the past week, and I have no way of showing you any progress of it on this blog. It's not as simple as posting images. A final product in music requires more input than just adjusting settings. Hopefully, I can get a final product to share with you sooner than later.

I did go out and take photographs of the night life. NO! Not the the party night life, just life at night. It's a different feeling being out on the busy parts of town during the middle of the night. It's so peaceful it almost feels...illegal.

N Main Street

I will share what I learned while shooting these:

1) Since night photography requires a tripod, DO NOT shoot while there are gusting winds up to 30mph. It makes things blurry.
2) 30mph gusting winds tend to make cool weather a little cooler. Take a long sleeve shirt or light jacket. It'll keep you from shaking the camera even more.
3) PEE before leaving the house. Nothing is open after midnight. And peeing in public is frowned upon especially if you do it in front of the police station.
4) Take a friend to watch your back (possums like to steal your stuff), and help you with the equipment.

I hope those aren't bullet holes.

I had to stop this shoot short because of the winds and I had no bodyguard. I do plan on doing more night shoots. I really enjoy them. The rest of this shoot is in My Gallery.

My street. So deserted at night.
The purpose for this blog was to help me keep working on my hobbies, to keep me creative and avoid being stagnant. Though I have been working on my hobbies, I need to remember that blogging is also a hobby that I must exercise on a more frequent basis. I just think that people prefer to experience a blog that has interesting visual components and not just words. At least that's how my brain works.

I'll try to blog more often, even if I don't have stimulating photographs. I'll try to use big words in the wrong context to keep things lively, instead.

Nothing New

Nothing new to report.

I haven't been slacking off on my photography. OK, yes I have.

I have been letting my body recover from the Cross Fit workouts. My left hammy feels tight. I'm afraid I'm going to hurt it if I push too hard. I am taking my protein to help my muscles repair and recover. By the way, I'm not entirely convinced on the cookies and cream flavor of the current protein I'm taking. I'm hoping almond milk will make it taste better, but right now I think I want to throw-up.

The times they are a changing. Actually the time already changed. I really hope the time change helps my sleep because lately, I have been waking up too much throughout the day. Yes, I sleep during the day. I live by the words from Slaughter, "Up all night, sleep all day!"

Here is a PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT:

"Please talk to your puppies about smoking before it's too late!

1 in 3 puppies that smoke graduate to crack...but never graduate from school."

Alien

Greetings Aliens,

I'm sure everybody knows about the Apple store and their highly popular electronic toys they have. I was in one of their stores just the other day doing nothing productive, just playing with all the fun gadgets, when I realized that I am addicted to Apple. I wanted to buy everything in sight. And in true addict form, I convinced myself that I needed, not just wanted, all the gadgets in the store.

Then I remembered those simpler days when the only mobile device was the home phone with 50 feet of telephone cord, computers were a rarity with their black screens and green letters, cassette tapes were in their prime, CDs were in their infancy and available only to the wealthy, televisions were considered furniture because of their size (and I'm not talking screen size, I'm talking about the back of the TV), and MTV played music videos. It was a simpler time, alien to kids nowadays. It seems my generation was on the fence with this sudden boom in technology. We either embraced the new ways of modern technology, or we kept to our old set ways and now we struggle to send a freaking text message, not to mention trying to surf the internet.

I'm glad I embraced this new marvel known as modern technology. Home phones are becoming obsolete now. Computers, well, they became mobile phones. Cassette tapes and CDs are now enjoyed by today's youth when they're on school field trips to the Museum of Your Parent's Technology. MTV...well it's still around from what I hear, but they don't play videos anymore. The cool thing now is 24-7 Cartoon Channels in HD on flat panel TV's that hang on the wall and free up hundreds of living room square footage to Wii yourself into fitness. Who knew?

Times were simpler back when I was a kid, and we survived without advanced technology. It doesn't mean I want to go back there either. Heck, times were simpler back in the Titanic era, but if they had cell phones back then, someone could've called for help, texted a friend, or posted to Facebook that they were having a little bit of water issues.

I like today. I love the Apple store because they take all the complications of modern technology and make it simple. These pictures have absolutely nothing to do with what I just talked about other than they were taken with the modern technology in use today.

I'm no weatherman, but it looks like a storm.

My only photo that captured lightning.

Embrace technology. Visit your local Apple store and look at what you're missing. Then send me some money for my special foundation called Cash-In-My-Wallet that needs all Apple products to start running.

1611 King James Bible

Hello again,

I wanted to talk about the picture of the Bible verse on the sidebar. I am excited because I think it looks awesome. Here's the story.

The picture is from a copy of an original 1611 King James Bible. These original Bibles used blackface type (Old English letters) rather than Roman type (what we use today). Eventually, they switched over to the Roman type. Spelling back then was not as standardized as today, so it makes it a difficult read. Nevertheless, I find it interesting. The copy I have is 9"W x 11"H x 3.5"D and weighs about 10lbs. An original replica would be 12"x17.5"x5.5" and weighing ~30lbs.

What I find exciting is that with my iPhone I can take pictures of verses and edit them on an app and come up with something like this:

1 Corinthians 9:22-23
John 3:16

John 3:16 has an example of the unstandardized spelling. I think these photos give the verse even more character. I find them very interesting to look at, then again, I am a very visual person. If a book doesn't have pictures or illustrations, I find it hard to concentrate. I don't know how I made it through school.

If you are in the market for an ORIGINAL old bible, or if you just want to have a little history lesson on bibles, check this website out. Some bibles go for hundreds of thousands of dollars up to millions.

What my camera couldn't do, my iPhone camera and app stepped in and did. Just goes to show that sometimes not all interesting photographs need to come from professional cameras.

Food & Cross Fit

Hello Everyone, or should I say, Hello One,

Today's topic is about food and Cross Fit. I must mention, these are two completely different and separate topics that I will be talking about. This isn't going to be about the Paleo diet. I am just simply going to talk about food, then I am going to mention something about Cross Fit.

First, the FOOD. I took some pictures of food today. It was pretty yummy looking. I couldn't eat it, though, because it's not on my diet. Oh well, it sure smelled good!!

These are for my brother's business. It's called Conoco Kitchen. They sell some really good food. Their location is 511 N. Main St., Euless, TX, 76039 (@ Midway Dr inside a Conoco gas station.) Stop by if you're in the area. (UPDATE: Don't stop by. It's not there anymore.)

(That was a product plug in case you missed it.)

OK. Now for CROSS FIT. I posted new pictures of more workouts. Hopefully, they can inspire you to join and become fit like most of the people that I see there. Here again are some highlights:

I hope you didn't think I was going Paleo on you with my food and Cross Fit title. I barely know the rules of that diet. I just know that donuts aren't included.
